A one piece forged aluminum steering yoke shaft has been developed to provide weight and cost savings over both the steel and aluminum predecessors. Information on the redesign of this steering yoke shaft to accomplish the weight and cost savings is provided along with the general processing and testing steps involved. The successful application of this new design on a production vehicle and proposed additional applications conclude this paper.
