Titanium aluminide alloys are receiving an increasing amount of attention for applications in advanced gasturbine engines and in advanced aircraft such as the National Aerospace Plane. The titanium aluminide alloys have very attractive elevated temperature properties but they are difficult to process by conventional techniques. Powder metallurgy is a means of fabricating components from titanium aluminide alloys which avoids many of the problems encountered with conventional techniques and mechanical properties equal or exceed the properties of conventionally processed product. This paper will describe the microstructures and mechanical properties of two consolidated titanium aluminide powders produced by gas atomization.
