Continuous silicon carbide (SiC) filament (SCS) reinforced metals (FRM) have been successfully integrated into numerous aerospace development programs fulfilling primary design objectives of high specific strength and modulus over baseline monolithic materials. This presentation reviews the current state-of-the-art in silicon carbide fiber reinforced metals through discussion of their applications. Discussion includes a review of mission requirements, program objectives and accomplishments to data employing FRM.
