Continuous silicon carbide (SiC) fiber reinforced metals (FRM) have been successfully integrated into on numerous aerospace development programs fulfilling primary design objectives of high specific strength over baseline monolithic materials. This paper reviews the current state-of-the-art in silicon carbide fiber reinforced metals through discussion of their applications. Discussion includes a review of mission requirements, program objectives and accomplishments to date employing these FRMs.
