Usually, the gas pipeline winds through the whole factory field and forms a united spatial structural system together with the supporting frames. The pipeline-frame interaction must be taken into consideration in the earthquake-resistant analysis. The rigidity distribution of the pipeline is practically unknown due to corrosion in rather large portion and strengthening in many segments, and consequently the given mechanical conditions for the earthquake resistant analysis are imperfect. A method to estiamte the upper bound seismic loads or displacements of supporting frames is suggested and several illustrative examples are presented in this paper. In the present paper, a method to estimate the upper bound seismic responses of supporting frames is suggested under the condition of unknown rigidity distribution of pipelines.
