A high-grade Anti-lock System with sensors and individual wheel control at the front and rear wheels, prevent the wheels from locking and prevent high slip while braking. Thus these systems, keep the cornering forces in the range of the maximum adhesion, ensure stable brake behaviour on all usual roads, whilst maintaining the steerability and directional stability with optimized stopping distances, avoid or reduce the risk of yawing of buses, towing and towed vehicles or the jack-knifing of articulated vehicles, and reduce tyre wear by avoding flat spots. Since the braking safety of commercial vehicles has been increased by ABS to such an extent that even truck/trailer combinations remain on course even on ice whilst being braked, within their optimum stopping distance. It makes sense to also improve the acceleration process by means of Drive Slip Control (ASR). In accordance with our development targets for an ASR system for buses, trucks and tractors the main purpose of the ASR is oautomatically eliminate unnecessarily high drive slip, of a driving wheel on roads with one side slippery (split coefficient) and of both (all) driving wheels on roads with homogeneous low or changing adhesion on straight roads and in bends and thus ensuring, and to increase interactive forces, and especially in directional stability when moving off and accelerating on slippery roads.
