Dynamic response of extended pipelines and tunnels is strongly dependent on waves traveling along these structures. In addition the response is influenced by the depth of burial of these structures. In this paper we first present some results of our recent investigation of the dynamic response of an infinitely long tunnel to traveling waves. The analysis involves a combined finite element and wave function expansion method. Secondly we present results of an exact analysis of a circular pipeline lying below the free surface of the ground.
