This paper primarily examins the influence of damper-coupled wheelsets (DCW) on the curving performance of a railway freight truck. It has been shown that an optimal wheelset coupler parameter, through control of longitudinal creep component can improve the stability performance significantly. In this study, a 9-degrees-of-freedom steady-state curving model of a freight truck with DCW is developed and studied parallel to a stability model, to evaluate overall performance of a railway freight car system with DCW. The results showed that although optimal DCW can improve the critical speed significantly. The curving performance in terms of wheel slip and flanging can not be improved in comparison to a conventional system with rigid axled wheelsets. A limited parametric study showed that like conventional system, the model with DCW also has conflicting parameter requirement between stability and curving, but the conflict in this case is less than that of a conventional system.
