The modes of operation of several vision sensor technologies are presented, and the application of each is illustrated by several aerospace applications currently in use. The use of vision sensors on both commercial robots and specially designed robots is discussed, with the relative merits of each considered. Also included are several examples of the use of such sensors for position error compensation (fixtureless robotic manufacturing), and new developments in photogrammetry as applied in robot guidance and calibration.
