Various vision sensors applicable to aerospace inspection are described, including the principles of operation of profile sensors, laser triangulation, light sectioning and flaw detection. Integration of these sensors with both commercial and custom built robots is discussed. A number of examples of industrial implementation of such systems are presented. These include measurement robots for gas turbine blades, discs and rotors; robots for gaging and flaw detection on sheet metal panels; and various robot guidance applications.
