Accurate flowrate measurement of cryogenic fluids is difficult even under laboratory conditions: the growing use of helium (mainly superfluid) in space missions requires small-size, rugged, maintenance-free flowrate transducers, characterized by long-term reliability and accuracy within a few percent. Several types of flowmeter, based upon different principles, are examined from these points of view and their characteristics and performances are discussed.
