The authors address the software that will be required within future modular avionics architectures. They approach the task of constructing the software for modular avionic systems from the viewpoint of the software architecture that is required for such systems, given certain assumptions about the hardware architecture. The introduction of modular avionic systems is proposed under the Advanced Avionic Architecture and Packaging (A3P) programme funded by the Ministry of Defence (Procurement Executive) (MoD(PE)). The material presented is mostly based on work that has been carried out by Logica, in conjunction with other organizations.
