The author discusses the implications of the language for current and future weapon systems. He discusses what needs to be done to realize the potential of VHDL, considers the analog issue and what can be done about it, and suggests some changes to logistics thinking. He also examines the VHDL connection to the avionics integrity program, VHDL use in improving quality in manufacturing, the VHDL connection to the new qualified manufacturer's list, and how VHDL can improve the implementation of modifications to fielded systems. A VHDL open technology center for the US Air force is proposed.
