The origin of the Sigma Star architecture can be traced to the series of annually updated plans called the Army Battlefield Interface Concept initially drafted in 1979. to make the C2 network more flexible and responsible to the needs of combat commanders deployed around the world, interconnection via satellite communications offers the most viable solution.
