The development of a demonstration model for a 10 channel mm-wave radiometer for second generation Meteosat is discussed and results presented. The demonstration model consists of a demultiplexer and four individual receivers centered at 183, 150, 118 and 110 GHz. In the absence of low noise amplifiers suitable for use between 110 and 183 GHz receiver performance and layout is largely a function of the front-end mixer. Three mixer types, single-ended, balanced, and subharmonic were assessed as to their suitability for use in the receivers.
