The author looks at the traffic broadcasting scheme for motorways. It is necessary to search for solutions which allow motorists to select only relevant messages and which allow broadcasters to continue a good program alongside a traffic message system. A possible solution which can be realized in the near future is the transmission of digitally encoded traffic messages via the radio-data-system (RDS). The so-called traffic message channel (TMC) of DRS makes it possible to continuously transmit traffic messages without disturbing the radio programme.
