The proposed airborne laser velocimeter ALEV-3 is discussed. The instrument is intended to be able to solve a large number of reference problems for air data, angle of attack, and sideslip measurement during aircraft flight tests. The use of this type of instrument is expected to reduce the time and cost of this phase of new aircraft programs. After a brief summary of calibrated tool requirements, the prototype equipment is described together with its applicability for flight tests.
