With the increasing standard of comfort and safety the requirements on automotive connectors are getting higher. Connectors should be competent for high current-carrying capability and should work highly reliable. Moreover, they should be space saving, user-friendly and of low cost. A methodical procedure is used for development of connectors provided with such complex technical features. Based on the systematical analysis of material and surface combination and design features as well as the related technical functions, connectors are optimized. The paper shows some examples of tools and testing, respectively evaluation methods applied for the development of high performance connectors used in automotive and white goods industry.
