In this work a sliding mode control scheme is applied to active suspension system in order to ensure robustness against parametric uncertainties in the system. New design parameters are introduced to the sliding mode controller for better shaping of the controlled system behavior. The proposed control scheme is applied to a realistic full car model having 44 degrees of freedom through simulation using ADAMS and it is shown that although the proposed control algorithm is developed based on a simplified quarter-car rnodel, it gives robust and satisfactory responses to various track test simulations.
