Motor vehicle lighting is entering the electronic age with products that aid in the avoidance of accidents through both active and passive means. Active can be described as concepts for forward lighting (to see with) while passive is for signal lighting (to be seen by). Intelligent lighting concepts already in use such as HID (High Intensity Discharge) sources and Automatic Levelling and others which are currently being investigated such as UV sources and Automatic Distance Sensing, are used to improve a driver's vision under varying conditions and thus actively enhance safety. To passively enhance vehicular safety, LED and neon sources are used for signal lighting to greatly increase visibility and reduce reaction time for oncoming and following traffic.
