A rear-wheel-steering system with motor-driven servo control, which achieves a lighter, smaller and more accurate control system than the previous hydraulic version, has been developed and implemented in production vehicles. This paper describes the configuration of the new four-wheel-steering system and the design method of the servo system. The servo system incorporates a robust model-matching control procedure that is unaffected by external disturbances and provides accurate control of the rear-wheel steer angle. The results of tests conducted to confirm the robustness of the system are also presented.
