The Millimeter-Wave Systems Division is presently designing, constructing and testing a multispectral MMW instrumentation radar system for field target Radar Cross Section (RCS) measurements. This system design features replaceable modular MMW front ends at Ka, W and D bands with bandwidths of up to one Gigahertz. A common IF/signal processor and data aquisition/analysis system switches between any two selected front ends and provides fully coherent stepped frequency waveforms at PRFs up to 50 kHz. Each MMW transceiver module is polarization agile and incorporates dual vertical/horizontal receive channels with both logarithmic and linear in-phase/quadrature (I-Q) detection. Dual range gated received video is digitized and processed in a Masscomp 5600 data aquisition computer for near real-time high resolution range profiles and ISAR images.
