This paper describes work initiated by the Admiralty Research Establishment into the parallelisation of a demanding real-time signal processing application. The application, in the field of Electronic Warfare Support Measures, requires the complex processing of up to 100 Mbits of information per second. The work is aimed at efficiently parallelising both procedural and artificial intelligence code across 70 T800 transputers. In both instances this has succeeded in demonstrating the feasibility of real-time operation using many transputers. ESM architectures of the future may use large numbers of transputers to form capable, modular systems.
