The demands of processing systems used in military avionics EW situations and non-military applications are accelerating due to increasing opponent capabilities, sensor fusion requirements, software logistics decisions, and techniques of battle management. There is a growing desire to expand the traditional responsibilities of the mission computer to encompass sophisticated information fusion and JTIDS data sharing. Pilot support systems that facilitate management and integration of large amounts of incoming data from various sources are aggressive objectives. Reasoning algorithms for automated decision making require innovative computer system and distributed processing. This paper discusses a high performance processor architecture embedded in a modular computer system with advanced application software real-time operating system support. The objective is to provide a powerful processing environment to satisfy the computational demands of data fusion and other expansion potentials of the avionics mission function.
