The ever-increasing cost of energy, partially due to difficulties with finding new primary sources, has led many researchers in the various industrial areas to devise new energy-saving techniques. In this paper, the authors focus their attention on the problem of minimizing the consumption of electrical energy in light metro rail transit systems. A suitable method for saving energy has been defined by using specific computer codes developed by the authors. The different running conditions for a light metro rail system have been simulated and the results are reported and discussed in the paper.
