The authors have previously proposed the new EML (Electromagnetic Levitation) systems which are composed of the salient-pole type magnets mounted on the bogie-trucks. The laminated rails without slots and the short primary on board type LIM. In this paper we examine the system which has laminated rails with trapezoidal cross section serving both suspension and guidance at the same time. It is found that the interaction between suspension and guidance magnets is very small, although the magnetic rail is used as the magnetic flux passes for both suspension and guidance magnets. Results of trial designs of magnets are given and by superposing bias direct current on the guidance magnets of both sides to some extent, the cross-sectional area of the magnetic rail could be reduced.
