A new electromagnetic levitation (EML) system is proposed. It has bogie-trucks magnetically levitated along laminated rails and driving linear induction motors of short stator type on board. Levitation magnets are salient-pole type and their iron cores are also laminated. In our previous paper it was shown that the salient-pole type magnet is lighter and has much smaller coil impedance than the U-shaped magnet. Results of trial designs of the new EML bogie-trucks are given and it is shown that control performance of the new system is much better than that of the EML system, which uses the U-shaped magnets and unlaminated iron paths for magnets and rails.
