This paper presents a new concept of a control circuit for a Class E resonant dc/dc converter. The control circuit consists of an FM loop and a PWM loop. The FM loop controls the dc output voltage and the PWM loop controls the transistor ON switch duty cycle. The control circuit allows a lossless operation of the converter over a wide range of load resistance. Furthermore, the power stage of the converter can be designed for optimum operation at a full-load resistance.
