A resonant DC/DC converter is introduced, along with its analysis and experimental results. It consists of a Class D resonant inverter and a Class E rectifier. The Class D inverter ensures a low peak voltage across the transistors and the Class E rectifier offers low switching losses and noise. An analysis leading to design equations is carried out. Experimental results are given for a 50-W converter. The converter can operate for load resistances ranging from full load to infinity. The DC output voltage is regulated against load and line variations by varying the switching frequency. The relative frequency range was about 70% as the load resistance was varied from a full load of 50 Omega to infinity. The measured parameters agreed well with theoretical predictions. The converter can be used in off-line power supplies.<>
