The characteristics of floor coverings in light-duty commercial vehicles used by different consumer groups are first elucidated in this article. Following this, non-textile material concepts, such as surfaces in rubber, polyurethane (PUR, injection-molded and sprayed) and TPE-0 will be introduced. Finally, the methods Taber, Schopper and heel test employed to determine the mechanical properties of wear, tread-resistance, flexural rigidity and slipperiness will be described and the results from the laboratory, test stands and long-term test drives will be presented and discussed.
