The energy of traditional traction power supply rectifier unit, which is based on the diode rectifiers, can only be transmitted in one-way, so the regenerative braking energy generated by train has to be consumed with resistance. It not only affects the regenerative braking capacity of the train, but also brings about a huge waste of energy, and leads to some problems like the rise of tunnel temperature, increase of the burden of environmental control system and corresponding energy consumption. A new energy-saving traction power supply device, which is installed in Beijing metro line 10 (two engineering), cannot only make regenerative braking energy of the train back to the grid, but also has the function of traction power supply, can reduce the fluctuation of DC voltage, as well as can achieve reactive power compensation to the medium-voltage ring network. Its application prospect is pretty good. The features, working principle, key technology, and engineering applications of the energy-saving traction power supply device are introduced in this paper and field test data are given.
