An ultrasonic method for the estimation of residual stresses in locomotive wheel treads with the electromagnetic acoustic excitation and reception of elastic waves is described. The results that were obtained for the distribution of residual stresses along the thickness of treads by the calculation and experimental methods with consideration for textural and structural factors are reported.
