The concept of small cars is not only changing in Europe but also in China. On the one side there is a market for higher priced compact cars and on the other side 'Megacity Vehicles ' (MHV) are developed. These developments create a need for affordable transmissions in the lower torque segment. The 5-gear dual clutch transmission is as efficient as the automated manual transmission without the functional sacrificies associated with the latter. The Getrag XTDCT 150 is a modular transmission for 5- and 6-gear models, a start-up gar ratio of more than 16, a spread of more than 7, 6 forward gears and full power-shift capability, a reverse gear without separate reverse gear shaft. Besides it offers the option for smaller step 1-2 gear and a low rotational moment of inertia. In the paper the actuator and dual clutch design concept is outlined and the dual wet clutch is described. The transmission includes an electromechanical shift actuator with one shift drum requiring no additional interlock system. The newly developed clutch actuator and oil cooler as well as the periphery (choice of a manually actuated mechanical parking brake, automated fully integrated park by wire system) is outlined. Fuel consumption simulation show a reachable reduction of -5 % compared with a 5-gear manual transmission.
