Active and passive vehicle safety systems such as safety belts, airbags, ABS or dynamic stability control (DSC/ESP) along with infrastructural measures such as newly introduced traffic lights or optimized road construction constantly reduced the number of traffic accidents and the total number of traffic fatalities in Germany in recent years. While passive safety systems only react after contact between the vehicle and the crash partner, active systems try to stabilize the dynamic bahavior of the vehicle thus keeping the driver capable to optimally handle critical situations.
