The effect of Cr content on resistance to CO2-induced corrosion was investigated for low alloyed pipeline steels by using high-pressure high-temperature autoclave with electrochemical measurement, while the morphologies of corrosion product scales were observed by scanning electron microscope (SEM). The results showed that Cr-enrichod compact corrosion product scales might form on the steels with addition of a little amount of Cr in CO2 containing environments, in other words, the resistance to C02-corrosion of the steels could be enhanced significantly by the addition of Cr. With the increasing of Cr content the average corrosion rate and the resistance to local corrosion of the steels were improved markedly. The corrosion potential of pipeline steels shifted to more positive values, and the polarization resistance increased with the increasing Cr content, which agreed with the analysis result of average corrosion rate.
