In this paper, we have demonstrated an approach that allows risk-based testing of Electronic Control Units in the Commercial Vehicle domain. It uses the information that was derived during the safety analysis that is carried out during system design together with a systematically-derived behavioural model of the system to derive test cases which force a hazardous condition to appear in a situation which conforms to realistic system behaviour. In mapping the results of Fault Tree Analysis to the test model, we discriminate between those basic events that directly correspond to stimuli or responses that cross the system boundary of the software or system under test, and events that are outside the system. Events that cross the system boundary are directly integrated into the model, while external events are simulated as far as possible using existing stimuli. The approach is demonstrated on an example that is similar to real implementations, namely a vehicle door window controller, which has been modelled in Matlab Sunulink, We show how test cases for a Model-in-the-Loop test of this system can be derived, The actual test of the system can then be carried out using an appropriate test harness, e.g., the SiMoTest tool.
