This presentation provides an overview and a description of the possibilities offered by simulation for the testing of automotive ECUs. Elaboration is made of the Simulation methods MiL, SiL, and HiL, and of the methods for obtaining real-time-capable models for simulation of the longitudinal dynamics of a vehicle. Future developments will reveal the extent to which tests will also be performed with SiL Simulation that are now running predominantly on HiL Simulation Systems. A test-management system is the ideal platform for simulation of the entire test process. The integration of automated tests for MiL, SiL, and HiL Simulators, as well as management of the models required for model-supported tests, will in this context gain in importance in the future for work in the area of automobile electronics.
