LINOS developed a test stand that is designed to fulfil three major tasks: qualification of head-up displays (HUDs), demonstartion purposes and analysis wirth probands. The motivation of LINOS behind those three topics is to improve its already profound know-how by building up a chain consisting of optical design, measurements and results out of tests with probands. Mid term goal is to answer the question - what is good image quality from an average driver point of view? The answer will permit setting the quality of head-up displays to a certain required level, which might result in cost reduction of the head-up display itself. The installation of the test stand and the development of appropriate analysis algorithms at LINOS is on-going. The modular concept (hardware and software) of the test stand allows to increase the functionality continuously. Next steps will be to implement a beamer module for the projection of a real driving situation onto the screen, a seat module for probands and an ambient light module for reflection analyses.
