Resistance to perforation by armour-piercing missiles is a fundamental criterion in assessment of the functional properties of armour plates used in construction of military vehicles. The method of determination of the critical velocity of missile hit into the examined plate, with 50% probability of protective effectiveness - V50 criterion was applied in the concerned research. The paper will present the methodology of research and manner of determining the critical velocity V50. The hitherto unpublished results of research will be presented, obtained for armour plates of thickness from 3.5 mm to 8 mm, shot with amour-piercing missiles , calibre 7.62 mm. the achieved values of critical velocities shall be compared with results of mechanical properties tests and examination of structural composition of plates.
