The simulation tools used to study the danger events connected with the railway vehicle derailment were presented. The main reasons of train derailments were listed. The most often criteria of derailmentand were discussed. Simulation studies were concentrated on the situations having the source in track imperfections. Studies took into account track geometry imperfections, exceeding the railway vehicle permissible velocity limits and the ballast maintenance state. The idea of track geometrical imperfections was exceeded, and the geometrical irregularities cover deviations of rail profiles from nominal dimensions. Emergencies of derailment connected to the track maintenance state were analyzed taking into account the local changes of ballast mechanical properties resulting from an insufficient drainage. The calculations were done using the model of a typical passenger car with linear spring and damping suspension parameters.
