In this paper, we have solved an optimal control problem with a reliable numerical computation, using an accuracy algorithm. A continuous descent approach has been confirmed as an optimized flight path reducing noise and fuel consumption. That reduction certainly leads to an improvement of environmental quality around airports and consequently their environmental performance. Maximum benefits can be achieved when arriving, in particular, by avoiding sudden changes in thrust. Due to Air Traffic Management constraints of particular airports, our method can be applied for each airport when the starting point of the descent and aerodynamic constraints are well defined. Pilots can easily use the obtained rate of descent and perform a Continuous Descent Approach. We strongly believe that the CDA is practical at busy airports in crowded airspace. It is expected to be applied by every aircraft on approach at any airport. The use of CDA can surely improve environment around airport, in terms of noise and air pollution reduction, and airport operational capacity. Finally, it can also contribute to fuel consumption saving by airline companies. The noise studies have, as yet, been limited to jet noise. Further research has to be considered including airframe noise model in a combination with the former jet model of modern turbojet aircraft. Studies have to be addressed for the descent and the departure characteristics of all common aircraft types and for heterogeneous arrival flows constrained by safety and passenger comfort. Conflict analysis has to be performed especially when insufficient spacing on the arrival is encountered. Finally, it should be remembered that this research is consistent with the major activities related to long-term programs investigating the technology to reduce aircraft noise from airframe and engines.
