Conventional driver assistance systems (DAS) like Anti-lock Braking (ABS) or Electronic Stability Control (ESC) are based on internal sensor measurements and monitor the current state of the ego vehicle continuously. In several applications the driver will get some warnings or even the driving process is influenced automatically. A large progress in the development of 24 GHz automotive radar sensors could be observed in the last years. These radar sensors measure the target position and radial velocity of all other cars in the local environment. Therefore modern DAS additionally take all available information about detected targets inside the local environment into account for an automated situation analysis and risk assessment. Based on the risk assessment results a warning about a possible hazardous situation and an emergency braking procedure can be issued for example.
