A method for the estimation of structural parameters in commercial passenger vehicles is proposed in this paper. The novel scheme assumes that the vertical dynamics of the vehicle can be described by a seven degrees-of-freedom (pitch - bounce - roll) model and formulates the discrete-time equivalent of the analytical equations, using the bilinear (Tustin) approximation. A corresponding vector autoregressive-moving average with exogenous inputs model with special architecture is derived, for any case of the acquired vibration response data, which is estimated through the implementation of a hybrid identification method. Accurate structural, as well as modal parameters extraction is obtained by the discrete-to-continuous transformation of the estimated characteristic matrix polynomial.
