Possible advances of multistatic radar systems are considered for surveillance of limited and critical areas for homeland protection. New enabling technologies are highlighted by referring to the use of multiparametric multichannel multistatic radar receivers densely distributed over the area of interest. In such a framework, specific focus is given to evaluating target visibility as well as to the possible application of an "ad hoc" network (AHN) of smart and adaptive radar-communication antennas.
