Overhead presentation. 3-points mounted implements are frequently used instead of pull type implements because of their improved manoeuvrability, the improved tractive capacity by transferring implement's weight to the tractor and the reduced power hop. Some implements such as mower, snow blower, blade work better up front. Implements are easier to watch up front. Using of 3 point-mounted implements reduces the need for ballast, thus reducing rolling resistance and fuel consumption. Besides this, it allows for lower tire inflation thus reducing soil compaction. Limitations of 3-point mounted implements are that they are not equipped with depth control. So if a tractor does not stay parallel, the front height becomes different to rear height. Pitch variations are thus amplified with suspended front axle and flotation tires. Laforge developed an active ground contour following system. This is a combination of upper link and lower link sensors connected together in parallel. It requires a length variable upper link. The upper link length variations generate variations in 3 point hitch position reference value. This sends a signal to correct the 3 point hitch lower links position: if upper link extends the lower links are lowered and vice versa. This active ground contour following system does not require set up or adjustment. The system reduces ballast requirement and fuel consumption, optimizes weight transfer, is easier to operate and improves quality of work and speed.
