The introduction of driver assistance systems for the increase of vehicle safety and comfort are based on environmental information and their interpretation. Today's driver assistance systems use miscellaneous sensors for gathering environmental data. But gathering this information is only one of the systems' challenges. One of the most important parts of a driver assistance system is scene interpretation. This paper will present a scene interpretation module for a collision avoidance system using vehicle dynamics data and environmental data in order to get a threat map of the actual situation. After considering several currently available sensors like radar, lidar and image processing a fuzzy-logic based scene interpretation and a field potential risk function are presented and some simulation results are shown.
