In an avionics system, the tasks of an application are distributed over the avionics modules of different sub-networks, and the various sub-networks are connected by a core-network, which is responsible for carrying the inter-subnet data flows. Currently, the task allocation in the sub-network and traffic planning in the core-network are conducted in a heuristics way. This approach is unwieldy and may not find a feasible solution even if one exists. Our holistic framework based on Mixed Integer Linear Programming offers a formal way to achieve an optimal schedule, with better response times for the avionics applications, while ensuring an effective use of the system resources.
