Calculated dependencies for the optimal ratio between the frictional lining contact surfaces in front and rear brakes automobiles were obtained with account for design features and inertia forces arising in emergency braking. The geometry of frictional linings has been optimized using the criterion of the equality of average heat flow densities in brake friction pairs. It has been shown that the optimal ratio between the contact surfaces of the frictional lining depends on the position of the centre of gravity of the automobile and on the adhesive friction coefficient between the wheels and the road pavement.
