Founded on a desire to investigate the effect of G-forces on Spitfire aircrew, QinetiQ's 50 year old man-carrying centrifuge is training Eurofighter pilots and astronauts. Over the past fifty years the centrifuge has carried out in excess of 70,000 'runs' and played a crucial role in developing a greater understanding of the effects of high G-forces on the human body and the countermeasures to protect against them. All of the anti-G systems currently used by RAF fast-jet aircrew have been developed and tested at the Farnborough centrifuge.
