The automotive industry is facing a challenge imposed by quality, cost, and safety aspects with respect to development of electronic and software systems. Standardization in systems architecture (AUTOSAR, FlexRay) and software development processes (IEC 61508) promise to provide the answers to the main problems currently faced by automotive software developers. The objective of this paper is to present a methodology that fully enables the IEC 61508 process while ensuring improvements in quality, efficiency and cost in the software life cycle. The SCADE methodology that we present is based on the use of the SCADE notation for modelling and on the certification of the KCG 4.2 code generator by TÜV Süd. In this paper, the authors present a methodology that fully enables the IEC 61508 process and demonstrate that: - It integrates seamlessly in existing tool chains and processes. - It fully enables a model-based approach, including model-based design and model based verification and functional validation. - It fully enables automatic code generation through introduction of a code generator that has been certified for all SIL levels according to IEC 61508. - It is fully compatible with standard system and software architectures such as OSEK, FlexRay and AUTOSAR.
